Chemoxy has long been invested in promoting Better Health in the workplace and in the region and so was delighted to become a sponsor of Yarm Squash Club Annual Junior Open. Operations Manager  for Chemoxy, Mark Simpson, was the Tournament Organiser and has been a member of the squash club for many years. The event which was sanctioned by England Squash attracted competitors from all over England with a total seventy four boys and girls playing in the age categories from Under 11 to Under 19.  The tournament schedule included over 120 matches running back to back throughout the weekend keeping Mark and the rest of the tournament staff busy preparing score sheets, marking games, recording results and updating the game schedule.

The club itself has a thriving junior membership, with coaching sessions for beginners and intermediates every Sunday morning from 9.45 till 12 noon, full details are on the club website.

In our locality the rising trend in obesity is one of the biggest threats to the health of the population in fact, the prevalence of obesity in Middlesbrough is significantly higher than the national average for both adults and children.  The trend of weight problems in children and young people is of particular concern because of evidence suggesting a ‘conveyor belt’ effect in which excess weight in childhood continues into adulthood leading to issues with elevated blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression

Squash provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. In fact, in one hour of squash, an adult player may expend approximately 600 to 1000 calories and in 2003, Forbes rated squash as the number one healthiest sport to play. Chemoxy were therefore delighted to support the Youth Tournament and to draw attention to the free taster sessions available for Juniors and Adults alike.
