EcoVadis is a global leader for Business Sustainability Ratings and has expanded quickly with 33,000 companies assessed 2015 through 2017. The assessment tested Chemoxy International’s approach to environment, social, ethics and supply chain challenges and reviewed year on year performance at both manufacturing sites – Billingham and Middlesbrough. In order to drive Chemoxy’s score forward from 2017 the HR, SHE, Purchasing, Training and Quality departments worked diligently on the actions in Chemoxy’s Annual Operating Plan and everyone is delighted to have achieved a score of 65 points in the 2018 assessment, delivering a hard earned Gold Award.
EcoVadis has recently published the second annual edition of its Global CSR Risk and Performance Index Report looking at the corporate social responsibility performance of more than 33,000 companies evaluated 2015 to 2017. The index examines organizations across nine industry divisions: light, heavy, and advanced manufacturing, food and beverage, construction, wholesale, transport, information and communication technology (ICT), and finance, legal and consulting and is built 21 CSR criteria across four themes: environment, labor practices and human rights, business ethics and sustainable procurement. Scores are based on a scale of zero to 100. About five percent of organizations score above 62 which represents “advanced” to “outstanding” performance, while companies with scores above 45 are considered “engaged.” Scores of 25 to 44 represent medium risk, and scores below 25 are considered high risk.
Chemoxy were successful in achieving Silver in the first year of assessment (2017) but through a targeted annual operating plan are delighted to be placed in the advanced and outstanding category with other Gold Award winners in 2018. Gold is awarded to only the top 5% of companies graded by Ecovadis on their assessment platform. The methodology is built on international CSR standards including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact, and the ISO 26000, covering 150 spend categories and 140 countries.
Many of Chemoxy’s customers have a major focus on the Corporate Social Responsibility and are increasing the ‘eco friendliness’ of their products, values and business goals which are all essential for Ecovadis recognition. In support of these customer objectives Chemoxy is putting increasing focus on the development of eco-friendly products including low VOC paint additives (Coasol®) and replacements to Parabens in cosmetic ingredients (Chemoxycare®)
EcoVadis has also been chosen by the “Together for Sustainability” group of companies to rate the CSR performance of selected suppliers. The “Together for Sustainability” group includes many top tier companies operating in the chemical arena including AkzoNobel, BASF, Clariant Evonik, DSM, International Flavour & Fragrance and many more, all of whom place significant value on Corporate Social Responsibility internally and in their supply chains.
The questions in the assessment are tailored to many different applications and markets and are answered online. For each question Chemoxy provided documentary evidence demonstrating how we operate in that specific area. It is a testing process, which challenges the applicant to share in detail all the policies, procedures and processes in place covering corporate social responsibility. Once the Chemoxy team completed and submitted the forms we were delighted to receive the results within a fortnight and even more thrilled to attain GOLD level at only our second attempt.
