Runaway Reaction Training

Posted on October 14, 2019 Runaway Reaction Training

Plant Manager Nick Yates and R&D Chemists Tom Scanlan, Louise Chisholm and Jane Robson, recently completed a series of online training modules on runaway reactions, delivered by Zsuzsanna Gyenes, PhD of the IChemE Safety Centre.

The course covered the causes and prevention of runaway reactions, along with learning opportunities from a range of well investigated runaway case studies. It was evident that a leading cause of a runaway incident is from a lack of knowledge about the chemical process, including the thermodynamics and kinetics required for successful scale up from lab to plant.

Nick, Tom, Louise and Jane found the course to be a powerful reminder of the hazardous nature of our work, aligning with Seqens’ core value of EH&S excellence; no job is so urgent that we cannot take time to do it safely.

Well done!
